Heba

Heba Al-Hamed, 24, from Jordan, studies mechanical engineering in Växjö:

"It's really important to have an exam in higher education"

Heba Al-Hamed, 24, is an exchange student in mechanical engineering from Jordan. She's been studying for nearly two years at Växjö university. Last year she won a scholarship from Sparbanksstiftelsen and decided to continue her studies in Sweden and is now a few months away from her master's exam in Total Quality Maintenance.

- I was looking through Internet trying to decide where to study. I have a relative in Växjö so when I found out that my university (Jordan University of Science and Technology) is a partner to Växjö university, I applied for this program. It's very good to have a certificate in Jordan that shows you have studied in Europe.

Hebas family lives in Amman, the capital of Jordan. She's one of five sisters. Her dream is to start her own consulting business, but first she's planning on getting a PhD. In Jordan it's really important to have an exam in higher education if you want a good job and a good salary.

- I really like the studying system here. I have more time working on my reports, I have more time studying - in Jordan it's much tougher! I like my teachers very much, they are really good.

Heba likes the peace and quiet in Växjö. Amman is a large, busy city with a lot of traffic. But she still misses her hometown and her family.

- Växjö is far away from home. I really like it here; my teachers and my friends... But it's raining a lot and it's dark and cold. I'm looking forward to spring!
